Prescan brightness doesn't match final scan

Hi all, I'd like to report an already reported problem (Ticket #20070603018243) in this forum that IS very annoying and first showed up after upgrading to 6.5, hoping that at least the difference of brightnesses will eventually be solved!

I'm using SF AI 6.5.1r1 and PS CS3 along with these settings:

As you can see, I'm unable to select the same settings in SF as I did in PS, I couldn't find a reason why. For the time being I scan mostly B&W 35mm films in a Reflecta ProScan 4000, the final scans are much brighter than the previews in SF which makes corrections a frustrating guesswork and forces me to repeat a lot of scans each film, wasting endless hours (I do scan a lot).

Although I've first reported this problem early in June and got a standard response as in the FAQ of this website, this problem persits without any real attempt from Lasersoft to investigate this issue, just as the slow behaving GUI and the lack of a genuine Intel Mac version which explains the sloppy behaviour and OS9 feel in terms of reactiveness.

Please help me to solve this issue as it forces me to repeat scans every time!
Patrick

This issue appears in both Ai and SE+ ME too. Regarding your comment I would like to add that SilverFast would be really good value for money if the major and minor bugs would be fixed for good, adding up a true UB version for Intel Macs.

Can you imagine working with scan software without a real preview, always guessing brightness and contrast by experience and trial & error? Please respond!

Another little quirk of SF that annoys since ? 6.x is that SF doesn't remember window positions of NegaFix and the densitometer when they've been positioned on an auxiliary monitor. Another major quirk and annoyance is, SF immediately crashes when an image file has been dragged in the finder over one of SFs program windows, ie. the preview window. That one's really bad!

I don't know whether this is a bug or a feature but when I start a new job in the JobManager, I have to deselect CCR and select the Film type for each picture (36-40 times per roll). It seems it's not possible to copy these settings to all pictures in the JobManager ? actually, why not?

hi sonny,

i have, no help has come. just automated responses. it's been 10 days.

also now i see i have been overcharged on my credit card for the "upgrade" i purchased. i have a receipt to prove it.

releasing updates filled with bugs, no timely support, no online help to speak of, a listed non-working us phone number, overcharging credit cards ... what is going on with your company? i am not looking forward to the rigamarole of getting my money back from you from having my credit card overcharged.

I develop roll after roll just waiting to scan them. So what's happening in all these major and minor issues? Is it true what asfberg says, it all comes down to nothing happening in regard to our matters?

:-?

Sonny, days have passed with no progress on my behalf. I've tried to set up what has been described here as 'Example 3' (see http://www.computer-darkroom.com/sf5-negafix/sf5_cms_2.htm) but why isn't it possible to set Color Management ? Internal -> Monitor to the value 'Automatic'? I only get a choice between ColorSync and None. Anyway, regarding my ticket: what did you find out in the meanwhile?

Hello, anybody out there?
The preview brightness problem has been solved using these settings

thanks to http://www.computer-darkroom.com/sf5-negafix/sf5_cms_2.htm, with the only difference being me using the eciRGB profile and the fact, that I'm unable to use Internal -> Monitor = Automatic. What else remains are the already mentioned oddities no one on behalf of LSI takes care of. Thanks for your support ? umm, wait, which support? Oh right, should say, thanks for your forum
