I am having a color control problem with SilverFast or Photoshop. Here is my situation:

Silver fast Ai Studio version 6.5.0.0r5 CMS is set up as follows:
Input -> Internal: Image Color Matching (ICM)
Internal -> Monitor: ditto
Internal -> Output: ditto

Scanner (Transparency): SF Provia 7_1_07 (a profile made via the Siverfast IT8 calibration function)
Internal: Ekta Space PS 5
Grey: none
Output/Printer: Epson Stylus Pro 4000

Embedded ICC profile is unchecked.

After scaning a film and looking at it in Bridge the file looks the same as it does in SilverFast.
Upon opening the file in PS there is a ?Missing Profile? dialog asking the usual three options: 1) Leave as is, 2) Assign working profile (Ekta Space PS 5), or 3) Assign other profile.

No matter which of the options I use, the colors become very strongly saturated. My guess is that a profile is being applied twice. But I don't know if that is true or how to prevent it.

How can I open in PS and have the file look the same as in SilverFast?

are you using multiscan? i "upgraded" to 6.5 and get very similar results to what you are describing (very strongly saturated colors).

I did not get any useful help from the Silverfast folks after posting this same question to their site. But after experimenting on the CMS setup I concluded that if I changed "Internal->Output" to RGB that triggered the embedded ICC profile to be the same as I have for "Internal". Then after checking the box so that my profile (EktaSpace in my case but other likely suspects would be Adobe RGB 1998 or ProPhoto RGB) is embedded, the colors from SilverFast to CS3 are quite consistent.

Whether this is related to the Silverfast version I have is unclear because the problem has persisted through several upgrades.

The RGB setting for Internal -> Output which you stumbled on appears to be the correct one in your case. While ICM may seem logical, RGB is usually recommended when bringing a profile-adjusted scan into Photoshop. When scanning with the SF PS plug-in, I also set my Internal -> Monitor to Automatic and ensure that I have chosen the working PS color space for Internal in the Profiles for ColorSync frame.

With these settings and ME enabled, I am getting fantastic E6 transparency scans in both 48 Bit Color and 48 Bit HDR Color using a Nikon CS V profiled in SF with an IT8 target.
