Can I calibrate with a Macbeth target instead of IT8?

I have a scanning camera (Praktica Scan 3000). Can I calibrate with a standard Macbeth target instead of the supplied IT8? The IT8 is better suited to a scanner and causes reflection problems when trying to calibrate.

I'm not sure you are comparing apples to apples. When you use IT8 you have a target whose color values are stored in a file, and then compared to the values your device sees when looking at the target. (I.e. The red on the target is "ff0000", but your device sees it as "ff0001")

RAG ? I'm not sure you understood my question. I just want to know wheather you can use a Macbeth instead of a standard IT8. My version of Silverfast is AI IT8 (specifically for the Praktica scanning camera) but using an IT8 target is not ideal for the purpose of product and fine art photography. IT8's are good for scanners, scanning photographs.

Ah,
I believe you will need some other software to create the profile in that case, but once the profile is created you should be able to use it with SilverFast.

obviously you will not be able to use the IT8 calibration part. However, you can develope a set of curves that will correct the Macbeth target back to known values. i have used this on my flatbed for prints of people with some success. It does work better than the std IT8 target for that purpose.
