Bright Areas Blown Out-Negative Film

I shoot a lot of night landscapes with negative film. One problem that I'm having is silverfast seems to blow out a lot of the highlights or brighter areas in the image that actually have a lot of detail. One strange thing that occured was I scanned 2 sheets of 4x5, one Fuji 160s and the other Kodak 160nc of the exact same scene with the same exposure. When I outline the Fuji image, I set the negafix to NPC which seems to be the closest I can get without a profile made for it. Anyway, after silverfast adjusts everything, it blows out the brighter areas, but for some reason it adjusts the Kodak sheet perfectly, with detail eveywhere. However, when I outline the kodak sheet and give it its Kodak 160nc profile in Negafix, it blows out the bright areas as well. There is no adjustment I've found I can do to compensate. Changing the curve seems to wash everything out. Is there anything I can do in these situations? I don't know why I get that good scan with the mistaken situation I explained above, but I'd like to get that scan properly. thanks for your time

I forgot to mention, I am using Silverfast AI with an Epson V750 on Mac OSX 10.4.

the best advise is to make profile of your own. it is very eassy (at least after some practice). the pre-defined profiles are ok, but i highly recmend doing your own every time u see that the profiles u have are not good enough. then go and adjust with the editing tools. it needs just a little practice and soon u will see that it will give u great results.

if u dont know how to make profiles with negafix - either watch the movies or ask for additional help
