Hi,
I have an Epson 4870 scanner and when I scan reflected material the previews are spot on but when I scan them and view them in PS CS2 they come out way too dark with a reddish cast. I tried all the setup fixes in the question posted by redrebel with no luck. It doesn't matter if I scan them stand alone or use the plugin in CS2. I use Silverfast Ai and have calibrated my scanner and monitor. Both working spaces are set to adobe rgb.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

However, given the few details of your setup, I can only but guess:
You're scanning with SilverFast SE in 48 bit HDR mode.
You need to configure > Options > General > Gamma for HDR mode: enabled to be able to make use of HDR scans directly in Photoshop.
However, HDR scanning gives you an otherwise unmodified scan.
So if your scanner has a reddish cast, you will see that, of course.

Please use the HDR modes only in connection with SilverFast HDR or DCPro for further image optimisation.
Alternatively, use the 48>24 bit scanning mode. If you need to scan with 48 bits of colour depth, you want to upgrade to SilverFast Ai.

From the few hints given by Steve it sounds that it might be the same problem as I have. Only when scanning negatives the output is different from the preview. In my case the final output is usualy a bit warmer/greener and somewhat darker. But on a single occasion it was also redisch.

Lasersoft has confirmed this problem to me on 3-apr 2006 and an update will be available soon.

Thanks for the response. I finally solved my problem through a combination of using a profile I created for 48bit HDR scanning and trying different combinations of settings in the options area. I do have Silverfast AI so maybe that helped some how. But the bottom line is that some how my profiles got meesed up, I couldn't even get a decent 24bit scan with the stock profiles.

I have had a tough time scanning dark 35mm slides so I am going to try my new solution on them and see if those scans come out better too.
