LaserSoft Imaging

Does anyone have any recommendations for a a film scanner? I'm thinking of purchasing one. I will most likely only be scanning 35mm but I want to be able to scan TO Letter Size (8.5 x 11 or even tabloid). How much do I have to spend for something like this? I am not a production house so I think Scitex and Topaz will be out of the question.

Basically, I want to scan my slides well enough for a book. I have all the confidence in the world that my SilverFast software will make that happen, I just need something that will do a great job without busting my wallet.

I've been using an Epson 4870 pro for over a year now and am pretty happy with it. It came with SilverFast AI and most of the time things work pretty smoothly.
I use Easycolor to calibrate my monitor and scanner and except for high contrast slides my scans, monitor and original look the same (prints are a different subject).

If you are only going to be scanning slides and negatives I recommend a film scanner. A number of people have given good reports on the Nikon Coolscan models.

I have the need to scan both film and pictures, so I purchased an Epson 4870 like swashbu, but I recently upgraded to the Epson 4990.
