Q re Kodak transparency numbering scheme

I'm trying to get some of my slides back into original sequence or at least together by roll. I'm removing them from the slide-tray, which was sorted for viewing pleasure.
I see a V and a number after the month-year and am wondering if it was their convention that if you brought more than one roll in they would be V1, V2 etc. or is the V1, V2, etc random? Hopefully not quite random. What I mean is would all transparencies in a roll get the same V#?
Goes back a few years, I.e. 77/78.
