I'm having a noise problem on some reflective scans. Night time shots mainly.
I'm using a firewire cable to connect the scanner to a G4. Could it be the cable & some kind of interferance or me not knowing silverfast very well yet? I just got the scanner last night so i'm still fairly new to this. Thanks.

It is absolutely uncommon to get noise in reflective scans. With the Expression 1680 noise is even barely visible in transparency scans. Please try with EPSON TWAIN whether you will also get noise from reflective scans.
Send an email to support@SilverFast.com with a selection of a scan and the SilverFast prefs file (inside the Prefs folder which is inside the SilverFast folder.

Is the noise in question blue speckles in the black areas? This occurs when you try to open up the shadow areas of a dark/underexposed image too much. Try scanning with minimal highlight and shadow corrections and turn 'L' value in histogram to '0'

Noise in dark areas

Yes, noise very often appears as color noise. One solution is Multi-Sampling if the scanner would support it.

What you have described will also help as a compromise.
