LaserSoft Imaging

For some reason that is not apparent to me, SF Ai scans saved in my Windows XP system as Tiff files do not appear as thumbnails in Windows Explorer. Trying to open the icons that appears in lieu of the thumbnails using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer results in a message that the image cannot be generated. Image opens just fine using Photoshop, but it is a tedious process to launch PS just to take a quick look at an image. Might someone be able to explain how to solve this problem?

Thank you. Unfortunately, however, that is not the problem I am facing. All scanning software I use other than SF creates a TIFF file that immediately appears as a thumbnail in My Pictures. Why SF does not do so elludes me completely.

I have only had this problem with large (GB's Vs MB's) tiff files. Take a look at the file sizes.

Maybe I know this problem - on my workstation all scans with 8 bit per channel are displayed and the 16 bit scna not. Photoshop knows the 16 bit format, that's the reason why it displays these scans.

Look for Lview on the internet, this little program suppurts many various formats!!!

What I have noticed on my computer (WinXP Pro - 3.6GHZ with 4GB of RAM) is that 16-bit TIFF filese are larger and take longer for the OS to create thumb nail images or to display in the image viewer. I believe file size is key. To explore my theory take one of the images that does not show up and reduce the file size. In my experience 16-bit images display just fine if they are not huge files. This does not mean large files don't display, they just take a very long time, in fact longer than I am willing to wait, so I view them with other applications.
