Dear List,
I am hoping someone out their can help me to perform an IT-8 calibration of my Microtek Artixscan 120tf being run off a Mac OS 10.3.7 system with SF Ai 6.4.1r2
I have already consulted Silverfast numerous times online, and they have been less than helpful in assisting. They've referred me to Ian Lyons' site describing the process step by step, but there are some inconsistencies between what is displayed there, and what I am seeing with my software. I've brought this to the attention of the Silverfast people, however, they have not responded.
If you could refer me to up-to-date Silverfast documentation, that would be great, since this is a somewhat sophiscated procedure, and would require a good amount of time to accomplish in an online discussion.
Thanks in advance for anyone's advice, and assistance in resolving this issue.
Friedrich
Calibrating IT8 Target
Dear Friedrich,
you can find a documentation for the IT8 calibration here:
http://download.silverfast.com/docs/IT8_Guide-en.pdf
(which is up-to-date, I hope
)
Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for your effort. I have the document you suggest. However, if you examine it, you'll see that there is nothing in there that says anything about how to set your color management options when doing the IT8 target scan itself, which is critical. Ian Lyons tries to assist with this, but his documentation is not consistent with the newest software version.
Anyone else have suggestions.
Thanks.

Dear Friedrich,
there is no need to set anything in the "Options / CMS" tab when performing the calibration. The IT8 calibration uses raw scanned data. The only thing which affects the icc profile generated at the end of the calibration is the gamma value set in the "Options / General".
Ian Lyons' tutorial is up-to-date
http://homepage.mac.com/ilyons/pdf/sf6_it8.pdf
Please explain what is different between your SilverFast version and the explanations in the tutorial. The only thing which might be disturbing is that Ian mentions SilverFast HDR (one can perform a raw scan with SilverFast Ai and calibrate with SilverFast HDR).
As you seem to have a SilverFast Ai version, you just need to set the scan type to "Colour", choose a gamma value in the options and run the calibration (all the other settings in SilverFast will not be taken into account). And that's it!
