JPEG problem

When I scan and save to file in the jpeg format, none of my graphic programs seem capable of opening the jpeg file. Any clues on how to make this work aside from saving as tiff and then converting to jpeg in another program. And if that is the only way to do this, then why is the save as jpeg option functional?

Is it jpeg or jpeg2000 ?

Some programs may not have the capability of handling jpeg2000 yet.

Don't know whether it is jpeg2000 or not. Anyone know whether SilverFast uses the jpeg2000 format, or whether Photoshop can open these files?

Dear chender33.

I believe that you have changed the "Scan Type" in SilverFast to 48 Bit HDR Color or 16 Bit HDR Grayscale. In this case images in Jpeg files are compressed to 12 bit Jpeg. 12 bit JPeg is a legal and documented file format, but there are not many applications which can open these files. LaserSoft offers a product called SilverFast HDR, which can open them.

I think that you should switch the "Scan Type" back to "48->24 Bit Color" and it should work again.
