Cyan Images on one Computer But Not on the Other

Postby mgilvey » Tue Jan 18, 2005 7:54 am

Greetings,

I'm having a color matching problem with Photoshop. I have two computers, both have Photoshop CS. Both OS's and Software are the same versions. The only difference between the two is on Computer 1 I have SilverFast Ai 6 with calibration, SilverFast DCPro Studio and Nikon PictureProject. On Computer 2 I only have Photoshop and another program called Film Factory (by Epson). Both computers have the exact same Color settings in Photoshop.

When I make a print out of Photoshop on Computer 1 to my color Epson C84 inkjet printer the image looks great. When I make a print from Computer 2 using the same file, the print has a heavy cyan cast to it. Now for the kicker, the little Epson Film Factory program will print the file correctly.

I don't get it! Why will Photoshop make a good print on one computer but not the other. Why does the Film Factory program do a good job but not Photoshop on the second computer.

It's not enough to be able to print from Photoshop on Computer 1, when I place the file into Quark (computer 2) it still prints with the cyan cast. I am told that Film Factory does not use color management at all. That doesn't explain why I can print on one computer, using color management and not on the other in the same program.

Could I be missing a profile that was added when I did calibration of my scanner or perhaps there is a profile that came with my Nikon software the isn't on Computer 2. Where would I find it? What if I sent this file to a printing company, would it come out cyan as well?

I have tried printing both a scan I made through SilverFast Ai and a JPEG that came off my Nikon D-70. I used PictureProject just to transfer it to the hard drive and that's all.

Oh, one more thing, the images look fine on both computers, on screen.

Any ideas?

Dear customer,

could you check your internal workspaces / profiles on the computers, please.

And which input profiles need to be checked also.

kind regards

Problem resolved. I went into Print with Preview in Photoshop and set the Color Management ans set the Source Space and the Print Space to the same profiles and it printed fine.
