Scanning silver image on colour film

Postby Roger Jones » Wed Dec 22, 2004 4:32 pm

I am having difficulty with an image of a mineral on what I believe to be Fuji RDP III film, which is predominantly silver. Having tried it with ICE on and off on my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED -- no difference and it comes out with far too much blue in both modes; checking it on my HP flatbed I get an even worse result.

I have cold booted the system that includes the Nikon several times, but the result is the same. I am now beginning to wonder whether this is a general weak spot with RGB scanners or whether I am missing something obvious, and whether the only option is to go monochrome.

If you are not working with IT8 profiles, (even if you are) , try this: Go to the histogram button, open it, and change the color cast removal slider to see if you can get the cast reduced.

There are some other threads in here that talk about the difficulties of scanning Provia if i remember correctly. Gregory C. has some direct experience i believe.
