Long Scan times with Minolta 5400

SF Prescans take up to 5 min with the following settings: 16 bit Greyscale, 4X oversampling, Negative film. No filters. Standard image setting. The same prescan done with Minolta software takes about 12 seconds.

Actual SF scans with the aforementioned settings take about 30 Min. Minolta software takes abot 2 to 5 min. What's going on here? How can I correct this problem.

I'm using a Dual 1Ghz Processor G4 with 1.75G of RAM.

The OS is 10.3

The scanner is connected via Firewire.

Note: I also have SF on an EPSON 3200 Flatbed Scanner. No problems there. Prescans are 8 seconds or less with the same settings.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear yellowcow

please open the options dialogue and check for prescan options.
Set your prescan resolution to 1x and enable fast prescan.
Hope this helps, Sonny

Dear Yellowcow,

Did you ever get a decent response from Sonny to the long final and pre scan time problem with the 5400? It seems this is a BIG problem that needs to be resolved yet no decent answers have ever been posted. In your case he mentioned the pre-scan option but was careful to avoid any reference to final scan times.

Lou,

Thanks for your inquiry. I've given up on the Minolta 5400 and Silver Fast software. Extremely frustrating. My workflow is now with a Nikon 5000 scanner and Canon digital.
