problems with transparency scanning

I have been having consistent problems scanning from positive transparencies from my Mikrotek 1800f. I'm using Jaguar 10.2.6 on the Mac.

Frequently, though not consistently, prescans start and then the scanner makes a terrible noise and the image in the preview window becomes a series of distorted coloured streaks stretching the length of the window.

I think I've eliminated the scanner as not only do other scanning modes: reflective and negative scanning work fine - also I can scan in positive trannie mode from Vue Scan (shareware driver).

Scanning itself is fine - just the preview scan. I also only happens when colour management is active - If I select no Internal input it seems to work ok so far - but the resulting scans are really poor of course.

I'm using the same set up as the Silverfast manual - I've tried using different settings - my own monitor calibration profile for example instead of Abobe RGB, but basically the results are the same.

I've calibrated the scanner as best I can - the calibration process can't find the appropriate target file on disk so I downloaded what I think are the correct files from Kodak - hard to tell from the names (eg: E1200205.Q60) but I opened the files in Word and they seem to have the same date as the calibration sheets sent with the scanner.

I've tried using dirrent scanner profiles suppled with the software but seem to get the same problem. I've spent hourts on this and am getting frustrated by the inbability to scan positive trannies easily. I usually have to try prescanning 5 or 6 times of more before it miraculously decides to do it properly - sometimes it works the first time only if I change one of the colour management settings, but then reverts to distorted noisy scanning.
Colorsync is set to Adobe RGB 1998. Euroscale coated and generic Grey, using Automatic CMM conversion.
I do get an error message when I use the colorsync utility to check profile validity. The SF_T (Artix ArtixScan 1800f) gets the error message: 'Header white point is not D50'. Could this be a clue.

Anyone had a similar experience? I really would like to able to use the Silverfast for trannie scanning but it's such a process to get it to work at the moment.

I think I have found a solution for the issue above (if not a reason). If I set the preview resolution to x2 or higher the preview executes correctly. It is when the preview is set to x1 that I get the distorted preview. Also I've discovered it only happens when I use the Photoshop plug-in module.When I use the stand-alone version of SF the preview executes correctly whatever the preview resolution value.

This sounds like a problem on your specific configuration. All runs fine, except for this specific configuration (Your System + Photoshop + Transperancy (pos) + 1x resolution + Preview + Colorsync). If you change any of this it runs smoothly. Photoshop and the SF_Launcher should have the same effect, there are only slighly differences.
