How can I DECREASE contrast?

Postby harry shin » Mon Nov 03, 2003 7:40 pm

1. I'm using the following:
* Silverfast ai 6
* Polaroid 120
* Mac OS 9
* Color Negative Film

2. Of the above variables, the only "problem" is with Silverfast ai. When I use v**s**n, I am easily able to view the current prescan histogram / image and adjust the black & white point so that I have ALL of the image data within the histogram etc... I usually do not need all of this iniformation however on some images (high contrast) it was important.
When I scan the SAME image with silverfast, the resultant image is a tad bit too contrasty (ie highlights are starting to get blown out etc...). Thus my question is, what are the methods to ensure that I have 100% of the image data in the scan, so that the highlights are not clipped?
All that I have been doing thus far is to go to the histogram, move the black / white sliders back OUT to 0 & 255 etc... But the image is still much much more contrasty than a v**s**n image.

3. Thanks for the help.

If you use the auto funktion, you need to switch off the auto contrast in the options.
You could decrease the contrast by the gradiation curves.

kind regards
