ICE or SRD does not work on BW - Why?

NIKON LS30
While the ICE function works amazingly flawless on color slides it completely fails on my old BW films. Not any scratch or dot is removed by either ICE nor SRD. Does anybody know why and how to overcome this? Thank you.
Bernd

The main differences between ICE & SRD are the following ones:
- SRD is a software solution, whereas ICE is a combined hardware/software solution
- SRD is semi-automatic, whereas ICE is fully automatic (since it relies on the use of the IR channel)
You can learn how to use SRD by clicking on the "?" in the SRD window.
You can also have a look at some other entries in the forum like:

from memory, ICE will not work with silver-based film. the infrared channel cannot penetrate the silver.

Gregory, thanks that gives an explanation.

...and SRD probably did not work because it is semi-automatic and some parameters need to be tuned manually.

Thomas, SRD works on BW but looks to me more like the Median function in PS which is lowering the sharpness drastic at a certain level.

Dear Bernd,
I do not believe using a median filter is the best way to remove dust & scratches. It is more suitable to remove noise without removing to many details. One can still use it to remove image defects
SRD is not like a median filter and does not affect as much the sharpness of the image like a median filter does. SRD relies on a more sophisticated method and only processes the detected areas. That's why the user should adjust the parameters in the view mode where the defects are shown in red to obtain the best results.
