Black & White Scanning

I'm wet scanning black and white negatives using a Epson V700 flatbed scanner and Silverfast SE software and I have a few questions:

1.) Should I be scanning in 16-8 Bit for best resolution?

2.) Is iSRD and SRDx compatible with black and white negatives?

Thanks for the help.

Dear user,

The bit depth really depends on what kind of image you want.
A 16->8 bit image will give you a true grayscale image.
A 48->24 bit image will create an RGB image which allows you to retain any greenish or blueish cast the film emulsion shows. Some users prefer this.

Standard silver halide B&W film can only be corrected using SRDx. These emulsions absorb the scanners infrared channel.

Kind regards,
Arne
