LaserSoft Imaging

Hi everyone,

Just got myself setup with a Nikon coolscan 9000 and silverfast. I shoot on a mamiya rz67pro2 and have been using Fuji pro 400h (120 6x7) to shoot long exposure night images, mainly in urban areas. The are often images with high contrast between absolute black and tungsten / led light.

My main question is what's my best process for getting this type of image scanned? What settings are going to be pertinent to getting the best from my style of shots? I've been testing today and the results are not great. I appear to be getting these issues:

- Lots of noise, especially in the green channel
- Odd, intense colour and heavily saturated scans
- The scanner appears to be trying to lift the shadows and I'm getting a haze/contrast issue where the roll off into black isn't pretty.

Anyone got any advise for this type of scanning?

Have you been trying to use Multi-Exposure on the images?
It can especially with dark areas and noise.

Make sure the red scan frame is tightly set around the image content. Unexposed material can disturb the conversion.

Have you tried manually adjusting the NegaFix Highlights and shadows manually?
You can do so in the NegaFix expert dialog's Expansion tab.
