48 Bits or 16 Bits for BW

Hi,
For some reason I'm led to believe its better to scan BW negatives in 48 Bits - whats your opinion on this?
Also, if I select 16 Bits will the color profile still be Adobe RGB?
Cheers
Peter

Dear Peter,
are you planning any kind of post processing? That could benefit from a 48 bit file.
It also is a matter of taste if you want a true greyscale image or rather keep the greenish/blueish tint many B&W films show.
A true greyscale image does not require a colorspace. Some users embed a dummy color space to state the used gamma. However that is not necessary anymore since almost all computer systems use gamma 2.2 now.
Kind regards,
Arne

Hi!
Thanks

Yes. I will post process in PhotoLine and ColorPerfect. In the ColorPerfect tutorial on linear scans they suggest grayscale for BW so I am probably just gonna do that. Its just that its easier to view the photos in Capture One but this software dont really read grayscale... but Im gonna do greyscales anyway I suppose.
Cheers
