Hi,

I am considering buying Silverfast for my Epson Perfection V30 flatbed scanner, but have a couple questions first. I was hoping you would be so kind to share your wealth of knowledge with me.

1) Can the Lamp Brightness feature in Special Defaults Palette be adjusted on-the-fly or in realtime while the image is actively being scanning? Or does it need to be adjusted before the scanning starts?

2) The forum post linked here: http://forum.silverfast.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5467&p=22026&hilit=lamp+brightness#p22026 states the lamp brightness actually changes the light output of the lamp; however, the forum post here: http://forum.silverfast.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=4196&p=15677&hilit=lamp+brightness#p15677 mentions it merely increases/decreases the exposure time. Could you confirm what one it is please? If it varies by model, could you recommend a CCD sensor flatbed scanner with lamp brightness adjustment instead of exposure adjustment?

3) Lastly, can the lamp brightness be adjusted so there is no light output?

No, the lamp brightness is a value that is given to the scanner at the beginning of the scan process.
Most devices need to calibrate their sensor to the value at the beginning of the scan. So it can not be changed during the scan process.

How the scanner changes lamp brightness depends on the individual device and the type of lighting it uses.
Some devices can actually change the lamp output and others vary the exposure time.
Most current devices using LED lamps vary the speed of the scanning and therefor the exposure.

The lamp itself can not be switched off. If you do many devices will send an error message regarding the sensor calibration, which of cause fails if you do.
