RAW format - TIFF and DNG with different results

Postby Addeo » Tue Apr 12, 2016 5:24 pm

Hello
I've started to archive scans in RAW format, but I'm little bit confused why is different exposure between TIFF and DNG format, anybody can explain this?
All settings are the same, I just changed output format.
In TIFF is too bright.

Dear customer,

It is possible your software does not process them in the same way.
The data stored in HDR(i) RAW images is always the same.
It is unprocessed scanner data stored with a gamma of 1.0.
The DNG file is therefor a linear DNG and it seems the viewer can detect this and tries to adjust the Gamma to 2.2.
However it does not do that for the Tiff, because it can not detect that those files are gamma 1.0 too.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
