scanned image quality and sizes (JPG and JP2)

Hi There,
Need some assistance here!
I've created some slide scans using my Epson V600. Works fine, no issue there. However, by selecting JPEG or JP2000 ( no PNG available, pity...) I played around with its quality levels, so I generated under identical sicumstances such JPEG files (quality level 100, 95, 90, 80, 60, 40, 20, 10). Surprise! All files nave similar file sizes and visually it all looks the same.
Checking these scanned images, without exception a quality level of 80.
Basically we have NO control over the compression ratio. It seems fixed at 80.
So, what are we doing wrong here? (Similar effect with the JP2000 format....JP2 extention)
We used the selected formats by clicking under "scan dimensions" the file type button as well as the "Opt" button for quality selection.
Could some one explain me on how we could manually select its quality level and therefore also its file size, please?
Tkx
