Rotating images

This post continues from the same subject on the HDR board. It suggested using the densitometer to rotate an image as part of the scanning process.

The method given on the HDR board works beautifully. Unfortunately, with the latest version of SF Ai Studio the densitometer does not behave properly. Clicking the top icon to change the densitometer display from point to area produces an incomplete image of the slide. Clicking the icon below to rotate the image shows the amount of rotation on the frame corner, but the image in the densitometer dock does not rotate correspondingly, as it did before. This means that you do not get a visual feedback of the selected amount of rotation.

The HDRi RAW 64 bit scans produced nevertheless are correctly rotated.

When posting the original message I used oversized frames (12 slide tray on Epson V700), mainly to avoid the image overflowing out of the screen area. I now use a frame set accurately defined to fit the image area of a slide on each of the 12 slides. Sometimes I get an overflow, requiring adjustment and a rescan, but overall this is an improvement on my previous method.

As a result, on an unscientific sample of about 50 rotations landscape-to-portrait, the densitometer image window worked perfectly in every single case. I suspect that the earlier erratic behaviour resulted from the oversized frames: they enclosed part of the body of the slide (which obviously does not let any light through to the scanner sensor) and this confused the densitometer.
