Hello,

This is my first post to the forum.

So far I have had good luck scanning film and slides using SilverFast Se Plus with my Nikon Coolscan V ED. Here is where I need help: I have just started to scan a large group of FujiChrome slides and I'm getting mixed results, mostly bad. The images are not sharp and the colors are flat. Outdoor images with a lot of blue seem to be the worst. The slide film says "Fuji RD" on the edge. Here is what I am using for settings:

Kodachrome setting seems to work better than just the positive setting.
Gane is set to medium
iSRD is on

When scanning other types of slides and negatives I've gotten good results.

Any suggestions as to how I could get better scans of these slides? I have 400+ that I want to scan.

Dear Steve,

Have you tried different image auto adjustment types?
If you click and hold the Auto CCR button you can select from a list of various correction types.

SilverFast also offers an easy way to remove color casts.
Open the Pipette tool at the left of the preview window and select the Neutral Pipette.
Now click on an area in the image which should have an neutral grey value.
SilverFast will use this to detect the color cast and remove it.
This may takes some tries and you can also reset the adjustments through the Pipette tool.
Rocks, shadows, folds in clothing and similar areas work best.

Apologies for my delayed response. Thank you for your post.

I have spent a bit of time trying out your ideas and I have seen some improvement. I will work with it some more.

Do you have any thoughts on the idea of using the Kodachrome versus the standard positive setting for Fujichrome?

Dear Steve,

It really depends on the state of your slides.
Certain slides can be scanned in Kodachrome mode very well even if they are not Kodachrome films.
I personally had some AGFA and Fuji films which had sch a strong blue color cast, that the Kodachrome helped me to remove it.
It is really a matter of testing the two modes and checking which gives you the better results.

The Fujichrome film itself does not require the kodachrome mode.
It is just a brand name and not the same kind of emulsion.
