I use SF SE Plus.
I use Epson Perfection 750 Pro
I use Mac OS X 10.6.8
All works well.

No I will calibrate the workflow.
I must do it manually because I don't have SF Ai Studio. Later maybe I will upgrade.
In the book of Taz Tallyis an explanation in which way I can do the manually calibration.
But I don't find in which way I save the different gradation because I use the scanner for negatives and positives.
I use also different films and formats.
a) Ilford XP2
b) Kodak Tmax 400
Is there a way to do this with SF SE Plus ?
Is there a way to do this with SF Ai Studio ?

I have carry out a little exercise with my own target to understand the workflow. Later I will buy a target for 6x6 and 9x12.

Dear Jochen,

The IT8 calibration is a device specific process.
It measures the colorspace the scanner has available.
So only one calibration for normal slides, one for Kodachrome slides and one for Reflective is necessary.

What do you mean by "I don't find in which way I save the different gradation"?
SilverFast stores separate ICC profiles for Kodachrome, positive and reflective scans.
You can select a different profile in the preferences depending on which mode is active.
However this is only possible in SilverFast Ai (Studio).
The negative mode uses the special NegaFix profiles.

Because there is not a detailed handbook available I use the book from Taz Tally. The title is "SilverFast-Das offizelle Buch, and has a foreword from the CEO of LaserSoft Imaging. So I hope it's OK for learning scanning ?
I'm a greenhorn and some things not clear for me.

Taz Tally describes a calibration of a greyscale. I hope You have his book ? If not I can send You the relevant pages via mail.

I saw this by my tests. I can use different negativ profiles. but my question is.
Black of original isn't black of output
Grey of original isn't grey of output
White of original isn't white of output >>> if I have not calibrate the scanner and software, isn't it ?

No one calibration/ICC profile for positives and one for Kodachrome slides.
Negatives use special NegaFix profiles.
Reflective can be calibrated for flat bed devices.

Taz Tally describes a calibration of a greyscale.

There is no such thing as a grayscale calibration.
Scanners are RGB devices so the IT8 calibration is also valid for grayscale images as they are also drawn from the RGB channels.

The Taz Tally book is very old by the way.
There is a newer one available by Mark D Segal.

Is there a way to calibrate Epson 750 and SilverFast 8 SE Plus ?

I think Taz Tally decribes a workflow to do this with his workflow, but I'm not sure.

Dear Jochen,

You can use a third party calibration software to create an .ICC profile for the scanner.
The profile can then be selected in the preferences CMS settings as the input profile.
SilverFast SE Plus can not create an IT8 profile itself that is correct.
