v700 and black dots on scans

I just got the V700 and all my scans have black specks in the same pattern on all scans. These are not dust specks. I have sharpening set to none. These are b&w negatives that I am scanning. I'm using the SE 6 that came with the scanner.

Any ideas what is causing this problem?

I decided to upgrade the Microtek i900 I was using because vertical lines kept showing up that were time consuming to edit. But, I have black specks showing up all over the scan with the v700. I have posted two crops to show the difference. The v700 is brand new.

Hi there,

It looks like those specks are either on the film emulsion or on the scanner surface.

Kind regards
