LaserSoft Imaging

I'm trying to scan a strip of film that was taken using a 360° camera. I'm scanning using a modified holder that allows the sprokets to be seen. I need to manually select the frame which means I have non-slide areas -- plus the sprocket holes -- that SilverFast is picking up. Most times I'm able to select an adequate black and white area but a number of times I'm unable to select such areas on the film using SilverFast's interface. Is there a more effective way to find the darkest and brightest areas? Automated mode does not work (it selects the non-film area as pure black and then the film comes out incorrectly scanned. I'm attaching an example of a somewhat successful scan.

Dear customer,

Please try the following (assuming a negative film):
create a frame which does not include the the sprocket holes.
Deactivate NegaFix adjustments be unchecking CCR and Auto (in SilverFast Ai this is located in the expert settings of Negafix [the little doctor symbol]).
Now you can enlarge the scan-frame without further changes.

For positives you can use a similar technique:
create a smaller frame, execute the image auto-adjust and then resize the scan-frame.

For manual positioning of highlights and shadows you will find the appropriate tool in the smaller settings window.
In the top row of icons you find one with a white and a black triangle.
Clicking the appropriate triangle allows you to manually chose the brightest/darkest point.

You can also move the position for highlights and shadows in the Histogram.
They are represented by the triangles below the curve.
These can be adjusted for the combined histogram or individually for each color channel.

Thank you. That worked! I had tried the CCR but did not try the AUTO setting and, yes, I am scanning a negative film. Very much appreciated as I had done extensive searches without success obviously because I was not using the correct search criteria.
