Multi-Exposure for Epson V750 - no difference ?!

Hi,

I've just installed the demo version of Silverfast 6.6.2r2 Ai Studio to allow Multi-Exposure for Mac OS X 10.6.4.
My just purchased Epson V750 scanner is connected via USB 2.0 on my Mac, the scanner is on a flat table.

I've scanned medium-format negatives at 3200 dpi (the brand new Kodak Ektar 100), which was even taped to have minimal shakings.
I then tried with 1800dpi, 2400dpi etc. and even changed the height to 3.0 and 3.5mm of the medium-format film holder.

Is it me, but I clearly don't see any difference when enabling or disabling Multi-Exposure.

Is it possible that the negative film (Ektar 100) is at its limits in dynamic range ? Or can it be the Epson v750 ?

Or maybe I'm doing something wrong here....

Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated.

Dear Gilles,

For a Negative the added detail would be visible in the highlights (because those are the dark areas on a negative).
Also a noticeable effect only occurs when the original single pass scan did miss a lot of detail.
Otherwise the added dynamic range is only measurable with expert tools because even a high-end monitor is not capable of showing the fine color steppings.
This finer color gradient is mainly an advantage when applying filters or editing the images in Photoshop.

My experience with Multi-Exposure has been it is most noticeable when scanning transparency film. I often use ME to bring out details in the shadows on images shot on Velvia 50. More often than not, the difference is quite noticeable. I should mention that I use a hardware calibrated LCD and my V750 was calibrated using Lasersoft's IT8 targets, which makes a difference in well, being able to "see a difference" in ME scans.
