I have Epson v750 Pro, Win 7 64-bit, Photoshop CS3 and SilverFast Ai 6.6.1r2b. The scanner is connected via FireWire. I am scanning an old photograph that's about 3"x5". Scan settings are 4800 dpi, 16-bit grayscale, no filters, no histogram adjustment, basically a raw scan. I consistently get a communication failure when the scan is starting. The scan is aborted. No such problem when using EpsonScan. If I reduce the width of the scan, the scan is able to start. It appears that SilverFast isn't giving enough time for the scanner to start returning data.

Is this a known problem? Are there timeout settings that can be adjusted?

Dear Konstantin,

EpsonScan only uses 24bit scanning while SilverFast allways scanns in 48bit mode.
that produces 16 Million times as much information.
Please try using the USB connection which is faster and more stable with scanning devices.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
