Hi!
I have installed a Brother Laser MFC (Fax/Scan/Print) and an Epson V700. The Epson Software works without any problems, also the Brother Software. BUT Silverfast for the Epson Scanner doesn't start. I have read that sometimes Brother USB-drivers are not "cooperative" and therefore connected the Brother via USB and the Epson via Firewire. But this doesn't make any difference. I downloaded the latest Epson software and the silverfast 6.6.1.7 without success.
I have to use both Brother and Epson on the same machine due to fax functionality.
Is there a way to resolve these problems or can't I use silverfast (and why does the Epson Software work properly)?
Regards,
Peter

Re: Epson V700 / Firewire / SE Start problem
Dear Peter,
the multiple imaging devices will cause a conflict in the operating system's imaging device manager.
This does not effect the manufacturer's software, because these do not have to use the system's manager.
The manufacturer's software just assumes the correct device to be connected.
SilverFast has to identify the scanner prior to loading the correct scanmodule and therefor requieres the operating system to identify this correctly.
If more than one imaging system is attached this often fails.
The scanner should be correctly found if you disconnect the Brother device.
kind regards

Arne - I have the same problem too.
Silverfast can see my V700 scanner on USB but not on Firewire. I have no other devices connected via Firewire.
Any hints on what I can do?
Snow Leopard 10.6.5
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz

Epson devices generally work better with USB on Macs.
It is also faster and more stable, so I would suggest to continue using USB.

Re: Epson V700 / Firewire / SE Start problem
Hi,
Although I've had no problems with my V700 with the previous version of SilverFast over Firewire, I've seen problems with Version 8.
Oddly, it doesn't see the scanner at Startup .... however if I fire up Epson's own Scan first (and then close it), SilverFast does see it.
I'm using Firewire because I've run out of USB ports on my iMac (running Lion) and its annoying that this functionality has changed
(I could see no difference in scan times between FireWire and USB)

Hi there
It is correct, FireWire has not been implemented in SilverFast 8 yet. Please use the USB cable to connect your scanner and computer
Cheers
