Scanning slides with Silverfast produces images with noticable posterization. This is enhanced if I use unshap mask. I even see it if I scan using the HDR setting.

I do not see this if I scan the same image with the epson twain driver.

Whats the deal? So far I can't use Silverfast for this reason.

I'm running the latest version of Silverfast AI.

I'm glad i'm not the only one.
I love the features of Silverfast, and thats why I purchased it. So far it's been a waste of money and time for me however.

What OS are you running? I'm running Windows XP and connecting via Firewire.

I'm on a Mac (OS 9.2) and have the same problem. In experimenting with my 1640XL and SIlverfast5.5ai to scan 35mm slides, I have yet to get anything near correct colors. I'm going to try the other software that came with the 1640XL.

Ahem, hello, Silverfast support? Are you listening?

Well, I just used the Epson TWAIN driver to scan one slide, and the result is a VERY GOOD color rendition. This compares with the woeful results using Silverfast.

Either I'm doing something wrong, or Silverfast 5.5ai does not work well with the Epson 1640XL. My next step is to ask Support directly.

Stay tuned.
