Epson V750 Auto IT8 Calibration with Multiple Targets

I am using Silverfast Ai Studio v6.6.1r3 and have recently acquired calibration targets from Lasersoft.

I successfully calibrated my Epson V750 scanner using the Fuji 6x7 target. However, I have other targets as well...Fuji 4x5, Fuji 35mm, Kodak in 35, 6x7, and 4x5.

My questions are twofold:

1) How often should I re-calibrate my scanner? Every time I switch film brands? When I switch film formats?

2) Is there a way for Silverfast to save multiple profiles, so I can quickly switch from one to the other without re-calibrating the scanner?

Thanks!

Dear tgphoto,

An individual calibration for different film Formats is not necessary.
(With the exception of Kodachrome positives)

The calibration is a colorspace calibration and does not include any film-type specific elements.
The larger targets are only more stable and generally give a better result.

Recalibration is only necessary if the external conditions of your scanning environment change.
(e.g. temperature, humidity, etc.)
Most user calibrate once a month.
But sudden changes in room temperature can also make it necessary to recalibrate.

Kind regards
Arne Ketelhohn.

So are you guys saying you can use any IT8 target for basically any film? Or are you saying you should match the film manufacturer for each film target (i.e., buy targets for each kind of film you shoot?)

Thanks!

More or less yes (when it comes to slides), with the exception of Kodachrome, as indicated by my colleague, this type of slide needs a specific target.

Cheers

Can I take the ICC profile obtained from using MonacoEZcolor and then use it with the SilverFast Ai Stuio software ??

Dear ima,

Yes, it is possible to call the ICC profile from within SilverFast Ai Studio. The following link leads to chapter 7 "Color Management" or our instruction manual.

Also a special color management adendum here: http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu/colormanagementguide_en_2006-01-24.pdf
