Hi all,

I have followed to the letter the instructions on the forum regarding the problems that everyone else has experienced regarding the issue of silver fast recognising the IT8 reference files. Unfortunately no joy for me as well, so has anyone got some more advice or experience that they can share?

Here is the issue:-

I have deactivated the S.F. auto IT8 feature because as we now all know this only works with S.F. IT8 bar-coded reference files, I have also activated the “Custom ICC profile name” option at the bottom of Auto tab in the options menu. I have successfully located, matched & downloaded the IT8 reference file from the Monaco EZ Colour website to match my IT8 reflective & transparent IT8 charts which were shipped with the V750 software bundle.

However, S.F. successfully scans the IT8 chart reflective or transparent and firstly states that it cannot read the bar code. I find this odd as I have deactivated Auto IT8 calibration which I thought prevents this? It then moves on to file browser to locate the reference file, and I obviously navigate to the correct reference file. Finally it sates the following…………….. Error: No reference data available.

Final complaint…………..I agree with previous comments on forum regarding this issue there is absolutely no guidance or instructions to assist customers in overcoming this problem from Epson. Very poor Epson, ever heard of communication? It’s been around for a number of years, indigenous tribes of America used smoke signals!!!!!!!!!!!! It must be an absolute nightmare for complete beginners; come on Epson listen to your customers they need some help here!!!!!!!!

Dear Customer,

the problem that you have is a very common one.
The reffernce files form Monaco Color are propritary binary files rather than normal ascii based text files. So the only program that can work with this targets and the according reffernce files is Monaco EZ Color.
So now you got two options, creating an ICC profile with Monaco EZ Color and embed it into the CMS of SilverFast as a Scanner profile or purchasing a diferent target like the ones we sell that have a standard reference file to use it with SilverFast.
I would really reccomend one of our targets as the Auto IT8 calibration works very fast and reliable .

But I must say a very frustrated response from me!!!!

If this is a common problem why are customers being led down this path of time wasting when you ought to inform customers upfront of the common issues and problems?

Why should I purchase MORE It8 charts when I have already purchased them with software bundle with this scanner??????????

P.S. your link on the web site to purchase IT8 charts does not work in any case.

I can really undestand you but note that the Scanner is sold by Epson and they decide which software and it8-targets to bundle with. I am well aware that the calibration process using the SilverFast auto it 8 calibration is much more comfortable.
