Greetings....
I want to scan 10 individual 35 mm negatives using KAMI fluid with the Epson Pro 750 wet mounting holder. Can I layout all 10 individual 35 mm negatives and batch scan them? If possible, suggested settings? How do I save individual files in SFI Ai? Suggestions and recommendations welcome. My goal is to print the images at least 16 x 20 or larger? Resizing suggestions also welcome.
Best Regards,
Big Fish

Dear Big Fish,
you can do so without a Problem in Silverfast as you can drag individual frames cropping each image and you can then adjust the images individually and have them batch scannes as 48 bit TIFF ( for example, other bit depths or formats are there ).
as you want a print size of 16 by 20 cm, you would scan like this:
Set the Q-Factor to 1.0 if it is printes with an Ink Jet ( Offset printing is a different game in terms of Q-Factor and Output Screen / Resolution, ask your printing office for sensible values, probably a Q-Factor of 1.5 and an Output Screen of approx 60 lpcm resulting in 228 dpi ).
Again, if it is for Ink-Jet printing you would want a photorealistic Resolution of 300 dpi in the Output Res. field...
The simply set the zoom factor until the image reaches the size you want or directly fill in the output size.
As this will result in a zoom of approximately factor 10 ( e.g, crop of 16mm x 20 mm to 16x20 cm ), the scanner will nternally scan with a Rsolution of approximately 3000 dpi.
So for a perfect output Quality you are close to pushing the limits.
If you were talking of 16x20 INCHES and not CM then you will have to live with an output resolution of maybe 150 dpi or such and you may want to use harsher Sharpening to still preserve a good looking Output...

Thanks Nils...
I will follow your directions. It was my mistake not mentioning 16 x 20 inches not cm's. So I'll try both approaches. Is using KAMI fluid a suggested process?
Many thanks.

Dear Big Fish,
i would first try without the fluid.
If you have to fight with Newton rings etc. then it may be worth a try.
Other than that only EPSON can says if it is okay to use drum fluid with their Flatbed scanner...

Thank you for info.I am surprised to here that as I have spoken to others using KAMI fluid on other scanners with success. What are the pros and cons of using Kami fluid when scanning.
Many appreciations.

Re: On 750 Pro scanning 35mm with KAMI fluid.
Dear Big Fish,
i am just saying: try it without first, if it is not good enough then try with the KAMI fluid, not saying that it is not good !
I am by no means a flatbed+fluid expert, having used Scanner fluid on drum scanners mostly, so maybe others can contribute to this ?

Thanks again for response. When I get a little long in this projects I will be posting some results. I already drummed (with KAMI)scanned an 8 x 10 BW acetate of a contact negative from the original glass plate and believe the quality is better. I can also compare this scanning the plate and the negative without KAMI. I have test printed in large format( 30 x 40 inches)the scan from the glass plate and it looks beautiful. Any way this is long project and will in posting and perhaps in a trade article.

Dear BigFish,
it would indeed be helpful for other members if you keep us updated about pro's and con's of scanning with KAMI fluid on the EPSON...

Re: On 750 Pro scanning 35mm with KAMI fluid.
HI...
I will definitely report back to the forum on experinces with KAMI fluid. I will be experimenting with old glass plate negatives, BW acetate and 35 mm color. Interested members may want to visit:www.aztek.com which is a scanning/digital solution company very knowledgeable about KAMI and scanning. They also have on-line video and PDF demostrations with comparsions of wet scanning for flatbed and drum scanners.
It may be a while for me to report back...but I will. Prior to that I will probably need to consult forum again because of my experience level with SF.
Thanks for follow up.
