I'm getting severe artifacting when using Digital ICE "speed" setting in Silverfast. Below are some samples. If anyone has any idea whats going and could shed some light it would be much appreciated.

Re: v700 Digital Ice Artifacts
Dear thrasherlife,
are you possibly using a Kodachrome or similar film.
The film material of Kodachrome and B/W films have chemicals in them that absorb or reflect the infrared rays.
This results in Artifacts and is a physical effect that can not be prevented.
With these films only a software based scratch and dust removal is possible.
kind regards
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: v700 Digital Ice Artifacts
I am getting them too with V700 but seems like only happening in highlights, it is not kodachrome or special film. Not every image. I have see other posts as well, is it only a V700 issue?

Re: v700 Digital Ice Artifacts
No it is not Kodachrome or B/W.
It is very specifically a Lite ICE issue in Silverfast and the same issue occurs in Epson scan with their Speed setting. I have found other references to V700 on the faster ICE settings causing these BIG artifacts and have seen other's examples. On the very same slide the artifacts don't appear with the Quality or slower ICE settings. As it happens in more than one software on the same image it points to a hardware issue. It does not occur with v**s**n but does with Silverfast and Epsonscan on the V700. The 4870 does not have this issue with their single ICE setting.
These are very specific observations from from careful testing and should be addressed as such, specifically regarding the Lite setting with V700. They only occur on some images from the same roll and are caused by certain parts of the frame not others, seems to be highlights.
Please try to address these specific issues.
Thanks

Re: v700 Digital Ice Artifacts
Dear newindustar,
like mentioned in another post ( please try not to doublepost ) this is an ICE <--> V700 issue and we can hardly interfere there.
There might be an improvement around the corner but we still have to work on that, i cannot give more details as there are legal issues involved.
best regards,
Nils Heidorn

Re: v700 Digital Ice Artifacts
Sorry about the double post, it was not intentional.
I was trying to determine the "ite"ICE issue as seperate form ICE V700 in general. I think that can be answered in my other post however.
Thanks
