I have been doing a large number of scans over the past few years using the Epson 836XL's and Silverfast Ai. For instance last year I scaned 9000 glass plate negatives along with variouse other objects. Recently I have been getting a color bleed or wipe over part of the scanning area. This was hapening first when scanning transpenencies but now is also hapenning on another scnner in reflection mode and which has had less work put through it.
We have had repair work done on one scanner but the problem has reappeared while also appearing on another machine. Recalabration does not help. Reloading the software does not help.
The Color can be Magenta ,Green, Yellow, or Blue. The coloration occurs in the lower half or third of the scanning area if I scan the entire flatbed area at 600 or 800dpi ( our normal setttings) . However, if I scan just the lower 1/3 of the flat bed ( the area farthest from where the scanner bulb is at rest) I get no stain. Nor do I get the problem if I scan the whole flatbed area at 72dpi.
These symptoms lead me to think that the problem is bulb related. But one of the scaners we are having the problem with is quite new and has not been used much at all.
Right now I am scanning with Epson Twain Pro and am not seeing the problem. I havent scaned may objects yet so I am unable to say it is not a problem.
Has any one had or seen this problem? Could it be a software problem?
