LaserSoft Imaging

Hi

I have a Espon v700 and find it the best thing for scanning negatives and slides.

I am now in the process of scanning some old vintage books (1890). Just wondering if anybody had some tips for scanning books.

Tips, I mean.. by , technique or experience usage that you have used.

Another question, is OCR important? Also, I haven't upgraded to the new LaserSoft would it be beneficial for scanning books?

Dear Dave,

some quick tips for scanning documents / books.

If it does not contain color ( does it ? ), the first approch would be to scan in grayscale and to use the automatic function to get good contrast reproduction.
If that does not work out well you can try to manually set the blackpoint to a place where the page contains black / dark ink and to set the white point to the paper white.
This should result in good scans, often looking better than the original.
Usually ( depending on the book / print technique ) a resolution of 300-400 dpi is good enough.
For very fine details or drawings you may step up to 600 dpi !

Thanks Nils - These are all black and white. The illustrations are very detailed, thanks for the tip, I think for these illustrations I will step it up to 600.
