Epson does not yet have a driver for the Epson 2450 in OS X, and since I have no OS X version of Photoshop yet, this isn't a big deal.

However, the Carbonized version of Photoshop is on the horizon and Epson doesn't seem to be making any bold steps in the OS X direction. LaserSoft on the other hand, is.

My question is this: If I have an OS X-native version of Photoshop and SilverFast, can I use these to scan in OS X without any native Epson driver? Or do I have to bug them to release the drivers so I can scan in OS X.

Any comments appreciated.

Generally USB and Firewire scanners will not work with SilverFast unless the original manufacturer's software is loaded first. They provide drivers that basically 'initiate' communications with the scanner, and allows software such as ours to communicate with it.

Your scanner of course is USB & Firewire only, and will more than likely need the Epson drivers for X before SilverFast will work with it on X. This is a fairly new scanner, I'm sure Epson will update the driver for at least this model.
