When i scan negatives i get previews and scans with no mid tones just pure whites and blacks. I read in forums that maybe ice or scratch removal associated with Nikon film scanners. But i cannot find any settings suggesting that is the problem. When i set transparency and negative i get the negfix dialog box asking for film type. It is like those film profiles are missing but they are internal so i don't know what is happening?

Yes Martin the neg fix profiles are there and I was using the pan F profile. Let me give you a little history. I am using V6.4.4r7 and have been consistently getting negatives that are to light. I was looking for the Automatic Density function described on page 40 of the manual and when I could not find that function I V6.4.4r7 I downloaded a demo of V6.5 and in V6.5 when running neg transparencies I get a third box called picture settings and that box has a slider for exposure and when I looked at it the slider was overexposed to the point that half of the histogram was missing. So I centered the exposure slider and when I went back to V6.4.4r7 I got a good scan.
So the workaround that has been working for me is to go into the Demo version V6.5 and check the density settings with the exposure slider. And then V6.4.4r7 will scan correctly. I have a ticket [Ticket2008020703338] with Alejandro Morales and have provided him the same information but he is not listening to me and just told me to modify the curves in expert. But he has no explanation of why the Epson software scans this same neg ok but Silver fast is unusable without modifying the curves.

Dear qeequig,
there is (and has been in v6.4, too) an exposure slider in the Negafix dialog. Use it to choose in between a Negafix profile different registrations for darker or lighter exposed films.
If this does not produce the effect you need, please try to use the Midtone slider in the Gradation dialog (the top one of the five ones available there) instead of the exposure slider under the picture settings.
Best regards,
Martin
