6.4.467a on OSX 10.4 will not start

Actually, 6.4.4r6 has the same issues as well.

System:
MACPRO 3.0Ghz 8 core w/6GB RAM
Epson 1640XL scanner via 1394 connection

If I install the software fresh, it will run as stand-alone only (could never get plugin to show up in CS2 or CS3) until the next time I go to use it.

On a second usage of the product (days or weeks later), I either get "The application SF Launcher quit unexpectedly" message, or I get the "There was no scanner found !" error.

I have tried these things:
- find and delete all pref files and re-launch
- disconnect scanner, reboot, reconnect

Here's what I'd like help with:
- Be able to launch SF Launcher and scanner under OSX 10.4.10 at any time, days, weeks apart.
- Be able to launch SF Ai from within CS3 via TWAIN

The only way I can get things to work at present, is to re-install and re-boot. That is until a week from now when I need to scan something; re-install, reboot, etc....

Where is the support?

Here I am over three weeks later with no response to me post, and no reply from a tech support request (with attached log file). I have to say that I'm not impressed with Silverfast as a company and am disappointed in their lack of response. It's ironic that there's good communication though when it comes to shelling out the money for the original sale of the product...

Hi Dave,

Have you tried the 6.5 Demo to see if it works, and are you able to use the scanner with any other scanning software?

Thanks for the tip, RAG. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to help anything. So I know I won't be shelling out any more money until I can get some resolution. The one thing that it did fix though, was the CS3 plugin shows up now (even though it doesn't work). so that's a small step in the right direction at least.

As for "other" scanning software, that's a good suggestion. But I'm not aware of anything else. Suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

I was thinking of the Epson Scan utility located at the following link.

That certainly nailed it down for me. Neither the Epson scan utility or SilverFast would work right for me. As soon as I tried switching from 1394 to USB2, it worked fine. So that tells me that I've got something going on in the hardware end of things. I'm on a MacPro, so I'm not sure where to begin. My network settings for firewire are set to DHCP (automatic) so I don't know what else it could be. Looks like I'll stick with USB for the time being.

Thanks

Dave
