Auto Frame Detect???
Auto Frame Detect???
I have an 4870 with Ai Studio 6.5.0r3e and auto frame does not seem to work for me :-? It didn't work in the previous release either, at least not for me.
I've tried auto frame several times and can not seem to get it to work.
I have the negative strip holder loaded with 4 strips of 4 frames each. I prescan and have a single large selection box for the entire prescan area. I set the scan type to 48bit, select ME2, and set the film type etc in the NegFix dialog.
I select the Auto frame and get 4 frames each encompassing the entire strip of film, all of the negatives as well as the black area representing the 2 frames not on the strip, not 16 individual pictures. It also deletes my settings for frame and NegFix. So l have to manually select each frame.
What am I doing wrong???

Dear Mike,
we noticed that the Autoframe feature does have problems with certain image/ scanner combinations...
I suggest you try out the upcoming 650r4 Version ( will be on the web later this week ) and give us feedback if you feel that it improved your results, will you ?
Thanks & best regards,

Just downloaded and installed r4. Works the same, no improvement. Just selects the entire strip holder frame even though 2 pictures are missing from each strip.
Thanks

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
I have the same problem and in the newest version, 6.6 Or4 it doesn't work right either. So disappointing as it takes me 10x as long as it should to do "batches".

Dear markegan,
what scanner do you use with SilverFast?
Do you scan filmstrips or mounted slides?
Positive or negative?
Best regards
Martin

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
Dear all,
i guess we all should agree that there is something to improve on filmstrip detection.
I will forward this to our testing and we got to find time to work on this if testing verifies your problems...
( and i am reasonably sure they will ).
best regards,
Nils Heidorn

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
Hello
Without having checked all the posts, has there been any improvement on the Auto Frame Detect in the last couple of weeks? Would make the upgrade to the current version much more attractive.
Thanks for your update.

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
I have read the threads regarding autoframe detect. I have ai 6.6 and am not getting good results with the auto frame detect on the epson v750. Is there a update I am not aware of?

Dear Lori,
We do not know what you are aware of. Have you tried updating to the latest version of SilverFast? Are you using the auto-frame detection for slides or negatives? If you are using the film holders, and the specific options for frame detection with film holders, it should work accurately.
Cheers

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
Hi --
I do have the latest version -- downloaded from your site last week. I am doing slides in the slide holder and doing the scanning via batch. It doesn't find the edges on slides that are darker near the edges. So have drawn out the frames and re-use those. Not as convenient as the Epson software.
Also, how do I rotate one or two of the twelve I am scanning, so the entire set doesn't get rotated? So I don't need to redraw a the rectangle to get the correct orientation?
Again, using the frames I have drawn, sometimes I don't want to scan 12. Is there a way to select 8 of the twelve without deleting my rectangles that I drew?
Thank you,
Lori

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
Dear Lori,
In SilverFast Ai frame-sets can be saved under "general" selecting the menu "frame" and then the option "save". Once you've saved the frame-set your can call it from the same menu or even in the options menu you can tell SilverFast to use one specific frame setting as a standard.
Well, SilverFast does not know which of the 12 frames is empty so you have to delete the empty ones but remember you can call the saved frameset anytime you want (as previously described).
See the following article: http://blog.silverfast.com/quicktip-flip-images-horizontally-and-vertically-in-silverfast/

Re: Auto Frame Detect???
Dear LSI_Morales,
I am also having unuseable results with the "Find Image Frames" button in the latest version of Silverfast AI. I am scanning 35mm negatives strips (4 strips at a time, 4 frames per strip) using the Epson Holder, and select the "Film Strip 35mm holder" option. The epson scan software finds the frames perfectly everytime, but Silverfast does not. Silverfast finds the strips but very incorectly locates the frames within the strips. The frames it draws are often different sizes and different aspect ratios, often not even the correct aspect ratio for 35mm negatives. Considering I have told it the frames are 35mm film strip it would seem the software is not making basic checks on the frames it thinks it has found.
Am I doing something wrong or is this the best currently available in Silverfast? I have 10 years of my 35mm negatives to Scan (2000 plus frames) and if this is so then I will have to ignore silverfast and use Epson's own scan software otherwise it will take me a life time to complete in Silverfast. Your help please.
