Epson 4990 Scanner and SilverFast again

Hi there -

I have the Epson 4990 scanner and although I mainly scan in black and white negatives, I do scan in the occasional color negs. Using the Epson scan software produced contrasty, completely off-color images. When I installed SilverFast and tried scanning a color neg in, I got the same problem and with more grain. I tried changing the sharpen modes, but to no avail.

FYI - I really am reading another language when I try to decipher the manual - I am still a traditional photographer but do know a lot about Photoshop and scanning. However, I am still not familiar with ICC profiles and when I tried calibrating everything to RGB1998, my monitor is way too dark/contrasty.

I did read the posts here about the 4990 but they didn't seem to help me much.

Help?

Incidentally, I am a Mac user.
Thanks! :D

Hello Ann,

As a starting place I think you should take a look at the plethora of wonderful information available at the following link
http://www.silverfast.com/show/sf-onlin ... ws/en.html

If you are interested in learning more about the use of Photoshop take a look at "Adobe Photoshop CS2 Classroom in a book" and or take a course at one of your local Junior or City colleges. You will also find many Photoshop seminars available as well, and some of them may focus on your particular needs.

I hope this helps!
