scanning slides and Epson V750 pro: problem!

I am facing serious problems when trying to scan slides using Epson V750 pro!

1. My slides are perfectly sharp with a lot of detail in, for instance, the face. The scan, however, is far too dark (face without details) and really, really grainy. I have tried several opstions SF gives, but I don't find the result very promising. Can anyone help me with suggestions? Please note that I am only talking about slides here!

2. The Epson comes with a holder to store 12 slides. If you use their own program, though still dark and grainy, the system at least scans them one by one. In SF, however, it scans everything INCLUDING the black holder... Do I need to change settings? Cannot find the solution....

I use SF Ai.

Thanks a lot for any help.

I just got my v750 and saw roughly what you did, however I would move the dotted lines in to the size of your scan then press the magnify button.

You can then start to adjust the settings and see the results on your prescan.

Or you could actually read the manual or even play the quicktime movies, that way you can actually learn how to use the stuff...

Get Taz Tally's "Silver Fast, The Offical Guide. Buy directly from ScanImage: best price. The "movies" tell you very little what the settings mean. The SilverFast manual just touches the surface of the true power of SilverFast. It's a great product once it's deciphered.

I'm scanning Kodachrome slides: I calibrated SF using SF calibration with a Kodak Q-60K3 target (see MonacoEZcolor Users Guide page 69 for details). I set SF Options/Auto "Auto Pipette Middle Factor to "too dark" -100 and "too bright" 30. I played with these pipette settings until I got good lighting.
