Hi everyone - I'm hoping someone can help me, as I am having I hope a simple issue with silverfast and my 4990.

So far, I am extremely happy with the results of my scans, and I have been predominantly using 48bit -> 24bit colour scans to scan in my Hasselblad XPan negatives - with pretty good success:

However... when I change it to 48bit HDR, I get the colours inverted.

I am currently using the latest version of Silverfast for this, the settings I have activated are:
General:
mode = Normal (File)
Original = Transparency
Pos/Neg = Negative

As I said, these settings work perfectly when using the 48bit -> 24bit "Scan Type" but when selecting 48bit HDR (without changing any other settings) I get the image with the colours inverted, rather than correct. Whilst I realise I can "invert" the colours again in my paint program, I'd prefer to scan them "correctly".

Can anyone make any suggestions?

IIRC, when you scan with output selected as HDR, then nothing is done to the raw bits except include your gamma setting (from "for HDR") in the file. So a negative scan would not be inverted yet. WHat happens when you open in HDR ?

What do you mean by "Open in HDR" ? Which program?

Do you have Silverfast DC or HDR program ?

Otherwise scanning with the setting 48bit HDR you will not be able to use Silverfast color tools. HDR ( DC has a version) allow you to do the basic scan with optimized histogram (or just the scan as is) , and then do color manipulation etc, at a later time. IIRC, it was originally implemented to improve the workflow in comercial shops where they could hire anyone, give them training to set white point and black point , make the scan, and then send it to someone with experience to do the color correction.

There should be a 48 bit color output option, without "HDR" notation ( if availible for that scanner) to give you what you want without going to HDR mode if you do not have HDR or DC.

I am using Silverfast-SE(Epson) to scan, the 48bit option is not available by itself?

then i suspect you would have to upgrade to Ai / Ai Studio to get the straight 48 bit color option.

Do you have the PHOTO or the PRO version of the scanner ? It sounds like you have the PHOTO bundle.

If you have Photoshop 6 or equivalent, it may not matter for doing inversions. Look at the other features of Ai / Ai Studio and see if it is worth it .

Hmm maybe I need to go back to the Epson scanning software for 48bit scanning?
