Unable to scan 19.4 x 1.0 cm with 3800 dpi and USM 200

Postby hannibalstgt » Wed Mar 16, 2005 7:01 pm

Hello,
I am using 6.4.1.r4b and Windows 2000 (AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB main storage).

Whenever I start a scan with area guidance (area is 19.4 x 1.0 cm - that is a section out of a Super 8 film that should be digitized with S8ToAVI ).
Filter is USM value 200 the active scan window pops up and the pilot of the lasersoft airplane is starting to waste fuel :( .

It flys and flys and never comes to an end.
You have to shoot em down (Microsoft message: the program is not responding) and then normally you have to reboot Windows 2000.

( The same happened already under 6.4.1.r3. 6.4.1.r2 did not allow area guided scanning larger than 145 mm width.)

EpsonScan is able to scan the area with a resolution of 3800 dpi and USM middle. File size about 130 MB - TIFF or 5 to 6 MB JPG.
So I asume the scanner hardware is able to handle this.

Is there a solution other than to reduce the scanning resolution.
I would like to use SilverFast rather than EpsonScan.

Any hint welcome.

Regards
Wolfgang

Hello Sascha,

I have filled in the form and submitted it to LaserSoft Silverfast Support.
I hope, there will be a solution, because I like SilverFast, but on the other side I need the 3800 dpi resolution (better more) for my Super 8 movie digitizing (you may remember the issues with the 4870 last year which got finally solved).
The wide TPU area of 20 cm was the reason why I switched from the 4870 to the 4990.

Regards
Wolfgang

Dear Wolfgang,

there is always a solution  but we need to get closer and therefor we need your settings. But your settings shouldn't be presented here in the forum.

Another tip is to read our scanning concept :

Hello Sascha,

I have read the scanning concepts, but I think I still have some questions about it.
Is this the place to discusse it or is there a better place in the forum ?

Regards
Wolfgang

Dear Wolfgang,

I would prefer our support or to phone our company.

I think here is just needed a little bit of assistance which will take longer here in the forum I guess.

kind regards
