Epson Perfection 3200 and 35mm Mounted Slides

I have the lated version of SF Ai and I purchased the IT8 calibration for 5x7 print, 4x5 transparancy and 35mm transparancy. I calibtrated all of them. Print scanning comes out just fine, but the 35mm transparancy (mounted) always comes out DARK and OUT OF FOCUS. Can someone please help me out here.

please let me suggest to address Epson support regarding this matter. They shall know if scans as such are to be considered possible and in-focus on the hardware side.

I have the same exact issues.

I will post to epson ans report back, but I have read of similar problems and if anyone has suggestions on how to address please post them.

I figured it was related to the distance from the flatbed to the emulsion, but my test in trying to control that yeilded no change.

Dear silsurf

in support and testing, we almost invariably need the SF_Logfile for further analysis.

On a Mac OS X PC you will find the SF_Logfile in /Users/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging.

On a Windows 2000 or XP system the SF_Logfile is placed within /Documents and Settings/(your username)/Application Data/LaserSoft Imaging.
If you haven't yet changed the standard setting of the Windows Explorer you won't see any folder "Application Data". You then want to open the folder options dialogue (from "Extras" the menu) and go to the "View" tab. There you can enable the Explorer to show you hidden and system files and folders as well as displaying the contents of system folders.

On older operating systems like Windows 98/ME or Mac OS 9 you will most probably find the SF_Logfile within the the program folder of Adobe Photoshop /Plugins/Import-Export/(SilverFast).

You could of course also you the search function of your system to find the "SF_Logfile". Please make sure that you will be shown hidden and system files. The SF_Logfile is always created anew when SilverFast is started up, even if no scanner can be found, it will be created.

Simply open it with your text editor (double clicking the SF_Logfile) and select all the text (Win: STRG+A; Mac: CMD+A). Then copy the selection to the clipboard (STRG+C / CMD+C).
Go back to the problem report and click inside the text field. Move the text cursor to the end of your problem description and insert the SF_Logfile from the clipboard (STRG+V / CMD+V).

I too have the same problem as mentioned abouve- scans of 35 mm slides are blurry and dark. Really blurry! I have taken the hardware to the local authorized Epson repair shop and they replaced some part that supposedly cost them $150, but the results are exactly the same. There is, of course, no way to manually focus on the Epson 3200.
I will send the logfile info to the email address listed in that doc.

Has this issue been resolved yet? There is no way I believe it's the scanner that is at fault.

I've had this scanner (Epson 3200 Photo) since it was first released. It worked great with Silverfast LE 6.0 on my G4 PowerMac, using Mac OS 10.2.8. Now I have upgraded to Mac OS 10.3.8 (on a Mac Mini), and I have the same problem with the transparencies (slides and negatives) as others here have described. Scanning prints is okay, though.

This problem does not exist with Epson's updated software?I'm using that now to scan my slides and negatives. Only Silverfast doesn't work. I suppose I could hook up this scanner to my old G4 and run it under Mac OS 10.2.8 again so I could continue to scan with Silverfast (since I prefer it to Epson's scanner software), but that seems to be quite an inconvenience. This is especially annoying since I just upgraded my SE software to Silverfast SE Plus. Now I can only use it on prints.

I kinda gave up.

I bought a reallty inexpensive dedicated 35 scanner and it does such a better job than the 3200 ever could on that format I gave up trying to solve the problem.

It must be software based from the look of all our posts.

Well, it appears that the problem is fixed. I wrote to Silverfast support, they told me to trash preferences in Mac OS X. I did, and that seems to have done the trick. I am now scanning some negatives through Photoshop, and the process seems like it was before.

I am happy!
