Cannot Get ICE To Function With Epson 4870 and SF Ai

I purchased the Epson 4870 pro. I cannot get SilverFast Ai 6.2.1.r1 to scan my 6x7 negatives with ICE at anything above a scan resolution of 1200 ppi. However, when I use the Epson scan software, it works at 1600, 2400, and 3200 ppi. Why won't SilverFast work?

An Epson scan at 2400 ppi with ICE took about 25 minutes to complete. When I attempted a 2400 ppi scan with SilverFast and ICE, it took over 8 hours and never completed.

I really enjoy the interface, workflow, and results with SilverFast Ai. However, the inability to use it for any scan with ICE at or above 1600 ppi is really limiting.

Can anyone help?

I am using SF AI 6 Epson 4870 and can not get ICE to work with a 100 MB scan. The same scan (with ICE) using EPSON scan works good. I sure like using SF AI, and do not understand why this feature is not working. :(

Same problem here

Just bought a 4870 w/ Silverfast 6SE.

ICE seems to work w/ smaller file sizes up to about 20-30MB.

However, by scanning a 4x5 slide w/ ICE at 1200 dpi the system crashed w/o any error message. The same w/ a 6x7 slide at 2400dpi.

It would be nice if the experts here would let us know if this is a Silverfast issue that could be solved in the next release or if the problem is located somewhere else.

My system: Pentium III, W2K, 512MB RAM, >1GB virtual memory

The only thing I can say is that the people at Silverfast at least are aware of the problem.

(I know this since I have had lots of email-contact regarding this problem)

Hopefully it can be resolved by the next Silverfast update - but who knows.....

The issue of non working ICE scans at higher resolutions should be fixed in the upcoming release 6.2.1r5.

Best regards
Ralf
