Epson 4870 - ICE does NOT come out (SE and demo-version!)

JUst got my new EPSON 4870 scanner:
But: I cannot see any ICE button or funtionality with Silverfast.
The EPSON original software does it, not the fastest way (as to be read here), but it DOES it...

I am working with German Photoshop CS, all plugins work normally...

Unfortunately: neither with the provided CD-ROM-Installation of the Silverfast SE (Plugin-vers.) [6.0.2r43 from september 2003 ] nor with a freshly downloaded trial-version [version 6.2.0d6 dated 2004-02-23 ] could I see any ICE functionality...

What do I wrong - is it just available in a non-demo AI-version and not - SE-version from half a year ago ?

My system :

Pentinum 4 2.4 GHz
1GB RAM
SCSI-Boot-device+ 3 x 160 GB HDs
Win XP Prof, SP 1

Epson Perfection 4870 connected via FireWire

Thankyou for a workout...

The ICE- button is only present in the downloaded version- some of the earlier CDs that shipped with the 4870 don't have ICE built in. After installing the new version from our website, the button can be found on the left- hand side of the pre-scan window (see attachment)

Happy Scanning !

How to get ICE-built-in SE version for early 4870-buyers...?

Thankyou, downloaded it and see it now in the "pilot-scale" (I thought it should to be found & seen in the main area...):
But: what will all the users do, that got the old, first CDs (vers. from september 2003) without ICE built in ?
Because the demo-downloads all bring along the protective watermarks...
and so are not a "replacement" for the older SE- CD-version

Any idea for this users like me...? Any chance to download a newer SE-version? Otherwise I cannot use this fine ICE feature without buying/upgrading to AI-version...

Thankyou in advance for constructive hints...

Get the Ai version, its worth it!

I guess it depends what your doing with the scanner and of course with the images. As for the ICE, Get some caned air. You will always get a better image without using to much software cleanup stuff.

@familyte:

Thankyou for the advice... I know that full version is really mighty,
but: for a serious deal the bundled software should at least be able to cover all the possibilities of the scanner itself. And ICE of the Epson 4870 is the main reason I upgraded from my Epson 3200.

So I just want to ask for a fair deal for all customers (and therefore a working SE-version...)
[or is it the kismet of early adopters...? ;-) ]

BTW: I tried out the downloaded AI-demo in comparison with the Original Epson Software:
The Epson software cleans out every dirt in a perfect way, whereas
the result of ICE used with Silverfast looks like some poorly made pixel-correction...
If you want to see, I could upload a comparison...

I had the same install problem. The directions on the flyer in the box are wrong and the upgrading process here on the site does not explain things well. At any rate, what you need to do is to download the latest version of SE (bundle). Then first delete all traces of your currently installed SE version from your computer (manually search for and delete any leftover directories). Now install the latestest download. If you did everything right, you should now see the latest version displayed on the opening splash screen and the ICE icon when the program opens up.

Dear typestar.

Thank you for your interest in our SilverFast Software.

Due to your post I just took our Epson 4870 and the most actual bundle-SE update from our website to verify the ICE button is there and it is where it?s supposed to be.
All Users that have one of the versions without the ICE functionality may get the free download from our Update-area online. Please use the WEBupdate feature from the "info" dialogue.

Please provide the comparisons via Email to https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html since my ICE results were very good.

Kind regards.
