Epson 3200 AI v6.2.0 won't start in XP

Lately I've been installing updated versions over and over again, waiting for that single version that would function correctly in all aspects, but it doesn't make any progress.

Version 6.2.0 of Silverfast AI won't even start at all. As soon as I let the Launcher start the application, there is a Silverfast splashscreen for two seconds, and then I get an error message that kills splashscreen, Launcher and also Photoshop, whenever Photoshop happens to be active. I?ve worked my way through version 6.2.0r1, 6.2.0r2, 6.2.0r2a, and 6.2.0.r3, but all with the same results.

I even went as far as to restore a ghost image on my computer with a very limited set of applications, so that the chance of any interference of Silverfast AI with any other application would be as small as possible. Didn?t matter. I tried to have Silverfast running inside Photoshop Elements (v1.01), and in Photoshop (v7.0). No difference at all. It just won?t work.

The only possibility to make it work is to put back Epson.8ba version 6.1.0r8 in the Import-Export folder. But then, this version had other problems that I wanted to get rid of.

Is there any chance that the problems with Silverfast and Epson 3200 will be solved in the near future, or should I just go back to version 6.0.2r35 I still have on a cd (which was quite allright), and forget about any updates?

I have an Epson Perfection 3200, Windows XP pro, Photoshop 7.0 (and a quite an amount of Mb's of downloaded silverfast versions....)

Dear Mr.Pleasant

we really want to excuse ourselves for the inconveniences caused with the first versions of the 6.2 release series (i.e. 6.2.0r1 - 6.2.0r2a).
Not to yourself alone, but to many troubled users out there: Thanks for bearing with us. :)

However, due to this awkward experience we tested the r3 for all the bugs we had before in the 6.2 on freshly installed systems with all Epson scanners available to us. No remaining problem with both, Win 2k and XP, could be identified.

Thus you easily can understand why I am astonished to learn that on your given configuration troubles still persist.

Please note that only limited support can be given via the forum which purpose it is to exchange ideas and thoughts between users (and/or LSI staff). If you want us to check this issue more in depth, please send an email support request to https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html with an attached SF_Logfile.

Thanks very much in advance for your co-operation,
Sonny

Thanks for your reply. I will send a support request as soon as possible.

About the bugs in previous builds of v6.2, I know from earlier posts in the forum that you people were doing some very hard work to fix it all in r3. That's why I was looking forward to this new build, and, also, why it was quite frustrating for me that again it didn't work on my machine.

But I'm sure that, if the software works on your testmachines, then it should work on mine as well. (Or it really is just bad kharma  )

Perhaps, if any other forum users have good or bad experiences with this combination (Silverfast AI, Epson 3200, Windows XP), it might be a good idea to leave us a note here.

regards, david

Another Problem

I just discovered a new problem using the same combination of hardware and software: I wanted to make a second scan of the same transparency after altering the crop. On subsequent scans the "H-S cast" setting had no affect--or any of the other settings in 'film type"--on the color cast. It worked fine then just stopped working.

Well, the error of reoccuring messages, at least, is not familiar to the people with our combination of hard-/software, is it, Jeff? Well, the error of reoccuring messages, at least, is not familiar to the people with our combination of hard-/software, is it, Jeff? Well, the error of reoccuring messages, at least, is not familiar to the people with our combination of hard-/software, is it, Jeff? Well, the error of reoccuring messages, at least, is not familiar to the people with our combination of hard-/software, is it, Jeff?

(Sorry northlight! Hope you like a little joke)

Got it!

Just to let everyone know: It seems that it was my webcam that caused the problem. I have this CreativeWebcam Pro attached to my computer with a USB 2.0. As long as this webcam is attached, Silverfast AI 6.2.0rx won't start (It was never a problem with any of the earlier versions of Silverfast AI I tried). Simply unplug the camera, and Ai 6.2.0 runs without problems.

By the way, version 6.2.0 looks very good! A thanks to the people of Lasersoft. It was worth waiting for (and finally, I can move those sliders: viewtopic.php?t=2542)!

regards, david

I had a similar problem except for mine was another scanner (a Fujitsu Snapscan), and it would take a long time for the launcher to come up, almost one and a half minutes. When I disconnected the Fujitsu scanner the luancher comes up immedicately.

I didn't have this problem in earlier release, there must be something new in their software that scans the USB port and it gets stuck on certain items. I wish it would only scans once and remember where the scanner is, if needed then the user can do a manual scan later. It's a bit annoying to have to unplug the other scanner everytime I want to use Lasersoft, but for now I can live with it until they come up with a solution.
